Preliminar list of the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of Puerto de Boniato, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba

Abstract
This research aimed to list, for the first time, the butterfly species of Puerto de Boniato, in Santiago de Cuba. The samplings were conducted on April and December, 2022 and on May, 2023. Seventy-four species (37% of the total number registered for Cuba) included in five of the six families inhabiting the island, were recorded. The specific endemism reached a 25%, while the subspecific reached a 31%. The Sierra Maestra, as an old and heterogeneous mountain system, along with the dispersal power of these insects, favors the diversity of Lepidoptera in the study area.
